What is an Agate stone?

Agate is a fine stone (formerly called half-precious stone), part of the Chalcedony group. Agate stone reacts well to dyes, which allows for bright, uniform colors on durable stones to create colorful jewelry at a good price. Dyeing allows you to obtain any color you want, as Agate is generally pale in color. Tinted Agate has a beautiful uniform color that is often translucent and retains its hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale.
