What is Labradorite?

Labradorite is a gemstone (formerly known as a semi-precious stone), it captivates with its beautiful play of colors often in shades of blue-green-blue, called labradorescence, and its metallic luster. When worn as jewelry, labradorite will be enhanced by light. Native Americans called it the "fire stone" because of this. Its main deposits are found in Canada, on the Labrador Peninsula where it was discovered, but also in the United States, Madagascar, Mexico, Russia, and Finland for spectrolite (a variety of labradorite that displays all the colors of the rainbow in its reflections).
