What is 925 silver?

925 silver is a precious metal composed of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals to make it harder. 925 silver can also be referred to as sterling silver or sterling silver 925. It is more resistant and durable than pure silver, which is softer and more prone to scratches and twisting. 925 silver is also easier to work with for jewelry artisans, allowing for more intricate designs. Jewelry made of 925 silver is also hypoallergenic, causing little to no skin reactions for most people. Lastly, 925 silver is a precious metal that retains its value over time.

What is 999 silver?

999 silver represents a highly refined form of precious metal containing 99.9% pure silver. Unlike 925 silver, which includes 7.5% other metals to enhance its hardness, 999 silver is almost entirely made of silver. This gives it superior softness and malleability, making it ideal for jewelry projects requiring precision and delicacy. However, its high purity also makes it more prone to scratches and deformations. While less common in everyday jewelry due to its delicacy, 999 silver remains a preferred choice for high-quality collectible pieces and artistic creations.

What is the difference between 925 silver and rhodium-plated silver?

We also have findings in rhodium-plated 925 silver, where the surface is coated with a protective layer of rhodium, a platinum component, to prevent silver oxidation, keeping your jewelry shining longer! Generally, rhodium-plated silver has a darker color than classic 925 silver (antique silver), but it will retain all its brilliance.
