What is a Sodalite stone?

Sodalite is a fine stone (formerly known as a "semi-precious stone"), a gem with an intense bluish-purple color, often showing fine white veins of calcite. It is sometimes used in the composition of lapis lazuli but has a much more violet hue than the latter.
