Tiger's eye is a fine stone (formerly called "stone half-precious"), it is a variety of shimmering quartz whose fascinating golden color, which plays with the light is due to oxidized crocidolite fibers. This gem is cut in cabochon and sometimes very slightly faceted to highlight its golden reflections. The largest deposits are in South Africa, but it can also be found in India, Burma, Western Australia and in small quantities in the United States. Its uniqueness makes it a stone of great value in jewelry at a reasonable cost. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.
