What is a Labradorite stone?

Labradorite is a fine stone (formerly known as a semi-precious stone), fascinated by its magnificent play of colors often in blue-green-blue tones, called labradorescence, and its metallic luster. Worn as jewelry, Labradorite will be enhanced by light. Native Americans called it the "fire stone" because of this. Its main deposits are found in Canada, on the Labrador Peninsula where it was discovered, but also in the United States, Madagascar, Mexico, Russia, and Finland for spectrolite (a variety of Labradorite that displays all the colors of the rainbow in its reflections). It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. If you want to learn more about its history and virtues, check out our article on Labradorite stone.
