What is an Iron Eye stone?

Iron Eye is a gemstone (formerly known as a "semi-precious stone"), also called hematoid jasper. It is the commercial name given to an aggregate composed of chatoyant tiger's eye (fibrous quartz), iron oxide (Hematite), and jasper, arranged in harmonious and relatively parallel layers, resulting from successive interstratifications.
