What is an Opal stone?

Opal is a fine stone (formerly known as a "semi-precious stone"), fascinating for its wide variety and color palette. Some varieties of opal have a very interesting play of colors, and their iridescence is only visible when exposed to light. For this reason, and to protect it from impacts, it is often cut into cabochons. Australia produces 95% of the most beautiful opals. Latin America, especially Mexico, is known for its fire opals with a bright orange color that can be faceted. It has a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale. If you want to learn more about the history and virtues of the natural Opal stone, you can find this information in our Blog.
