What is a Rhodochrosite Stone?

Rhodochrosite is a fine stone (formerly known as a "semi-precious stone"), it is a light pink gemstone with white streaks forming small hooks and sometimes some black veins. Raw or cut into cabochons, rhodochrosite looks like candy. Nicknamed the "Rose of the Incas," its most important deposits are in Argentina, where it has become the national stone. Other major deposits are found in Peru, the United States, South Africa, and China. It has a hardness of 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale.
