Peridot is a variety of olivine (which is a family of green gems) prized for its characteristic lime green color. Peridot has a beautiful luster and is very shock resistant, making it a stone that has been used in jewelry since antiquity. The best deposits are found in Burma, Pakistan, and Arizona (USA) where currently more than 80% of peridots come from. China and Egypt also have good deposits.
