What is Nazar Boncuk?

The term nazar boncuk comes from Turkish, with nazar meaning "evil eye" and boncuk "amulet". The nazar boncuk is a traditional talisman in the shape of a blue, round eye, believed to ward off the evil eye, ill-intentioned people, repel negative energies, and protect its wearer. The nazar boncuk is widespread in the region between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, such as Turkey (where it is most common), Greece, Armenia, Iran, and Azerbaijan. It is sometimes called the "Greek eye" or "Turkish eye".

The Nazar Boncuk is typically composed of concentric circles of dark blue, light blue, white, and sometimes yellow and black, forming a stylized representation of an eye. Blue is the dominant color, as it is believed to have the power to repel negative forces.
