What is a Malachite Stone?
Malachite is a gemstone (formerly known as a "semi-precious stone"), it is a green gem characterized by its light green and dark green color bands that have made it famous. It is usually cut into cabochons to highlight these green shades. It has been widely used in ornamental objects, such as Fabergé eggs, with the most famous deposits being in the Ural Mountains. Today, most malachites come from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Namibia. It has a hardness of 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale.
