Tiger's eye is a fine stone (formerly called half-preciousstone), a variety of shimmering quartz whose fascinating golden color, which plays with the light, is due to oxidized crocidolite fibers. This gem is cut as a cabochon and sometimes faceted very slightly to highlight its golden reflections. The largest deposits are in South Africa, but it can also be found in India, Burma, Western Australia and in small quantities in the United States. Its singularity makes it a stone of great value in jewelry at a reasonable cost. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. To find out more about its history and virtues, read our article on Tiger's Eye.
