What is a Cordierite Stone?
Cordierite, sometimes called Iolite, is a fine stone (formerly known as a semi-precious stone) that comes in various shades of purple. It exhibits strong trichroism visible to the naked eye and can change color depending on the orientation of the sun. This is why the Vikings used it to navigate at sea even in foggy weather. Cordierite has a blue color with a vitreous or matte luster. This color play in different lighting conditions makes it a very interesting stone for jewelry.
