What is an Amazonite stone?

The Amazonite gemstone, formerly known as a "semi-precious stone", is a variety of microcline feldspar with a hardness ranging from 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale. Its name is derived from the Amazon River, where it is said to have been discovered. This fine stone comes in green, blue-green, translucent to opaque colors, has a shimmering appearance, and is sensitive to pressure. The largest mines are located in Brazil, Russia, and the United States (Colorado).
