Falcon's eye is a fine stone (formerly called "stone half-precious") which is a variety of shimmering quartz with intense blue-green colors, caused by unaltered crocidolite fibers. This gem is cut in cabochon and sometimes very slightly faceted to highlight its deep blue and green reflections. The largest deposits are in South Africa, but it can also be found in India, Burma, Western Australia and to a lesser extent in the United States. Its unique appearance makes it a prized stone in jewelry at a reasonable cost. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. If you want to know more about its history and virtues, see our article on Hawk's Eye stone.
