What is a Jasper stone?

Jasper is a fine stone (formerly known as semi-precious ) belonging to the Chalcedony family, like Agate. Jasper is opaque and comes in a variety of colors, but remains in dark red, brown and dark green hues. It is often cabochon-cut or engraved, and is used for both jewelry and ornamentation. Red jasper is highly prized for its non-aggressive color and its calming properties that release stress and external tensions. It has a hardness of 6.5 and 7 on the Mohs scale. If you'd like to find out more about the history and virtues of natural Jasper stone, read all about it in our Blog.
